WV CASH NOW

One time a year, thousands of West Virginians will receive their Unclaimed Property automatically! This automatic return program, called West Virginia Cash Now, cross-references databases to establish and locate unclaimed property owners.

The West Virginia Cash Now program only applies to certain single-owner properties valued at less than $5,000 that can be verified by the Treasurer’s Office databases without the need for additional documentation. Other types of ownership, such as unclaimed property owned by businesses or estates, and securities properties, are not eligible for the West Virginia Cash Now program because they cannot be verified by the Treasurer’s Office without additional documentation.

Each July, the Unclaimed Property Division will mail letters to apparent property owners matched through the WV Cash Now program. The purpose of the letter is to give the owner advance notice that they have been identified as a WV Cash Now recipient, to verify their mailing address is accurate, and to assure the public that this is a valid program of the Treasurer’s Office and not a scam. The letter includes the amount of funds the owner will receive in the fall.

Treasurer Pack is pleased to match these owners with their property through the WV Cash Now program, but the Treasurer’s Office is still holding millions of dollars in unclaimed property that cannot be matched through public records or requires additional information to establish ownership. New property is also reported to the Treasurer’s Office annually. We encourage everyone to conduct an online search each year to see if the unclaimed property we are holding could belong to you!
